Sparks Chamber Profile
The Sparks Chamber of Commerce is the energizing and vitalizing force of the community.
It seeks to unite all the industrial, commercial, and civic interests of the city for the purpose of concerted action in supporting those activities which are broader than any single business or industry, and which promote the welfare of the city as a whole.
The Sparks Chamber of Commerce is a working partnership of business and professional people to promote the interests of our community and our area. It is an organization of people who know the wisdom of coordinating their efforts under effective leadership for advancement and development of the community. |

Objectives of the Chamber:

To coordinate the efforts of commerce, industry, and the professions in maintaining and strengthening a sound and healthy business climate in the Sparks area.

To sponsor aggressive programs and stimulate activities which will provide for full development and employment of our human and economic resources.

Chamber activities are governed by a Board of 15 Directors, elected on a rotating basis. An appropriate number of Directors are elected each year for a three-year term. The Past President acts on the Board for the year following her/his term. The Board organizes and elects the Chamber officers at their November meeting for the following year. All policies and programs are the responsibilities of the Board of Directors.
The business management of the Chamber is the responsibility of the Executive Director, who must operate with in the framework of the budget established, programs adopted, and policies developed by the Directors.
Present Chamber staff consists of the Executive Director, Office Manager, Administrative Assistant, a Tourism Representative, and Sales Representative. A capable staff is essential, but the true effectiveness of the Sparks Chamber of Commerce is measured by the extent to which the members furnish the leadership and carry their share of the workload.
The Sparks Chamber was chartered by the State of Nevada on November 28, 1977, as a non-profit corporation.
The principal office of the Chamber is located at 634 Pyramid Way, Sparks NV 89431. Office hours are 8:00 a.m., until 5:00 p.m. weekdays. The office serves as a tourist information center and visitors guide that currently serves over 22,000 tourists annually.
FINANCING THE CHAMBER
The main source of revenue for the general operating expenses of the Chamber is through membership dues. The amount of the membership dues may vary from the number of employees in a business. Membership dues are payable annually, or by the quarter. Statements are mailed in advance of due date. Accounts are delinquent after 90 days of due date. Fundraisers are also held by the Chamber throughout the year. Luncheons, mixers, and membership directory ads bring in additional revenue.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Upon request for recommendation, the Sparks Chamber of Commerce supports its member firms by supplying the names of member business and organizations appropriate to the request. The provision of names does not constitute a recommendation.
ENDORSEMENTS
The Sparks Chamber does not provide letters of endorsement to companies or individuals or products or projects.
MEMBER COMMUNICATION
The communications program of the Chamber is comprised of the following: monthly luncheons or mixers, monthly board meetings, regular monthly newsletter reports, and specialized mailings and meetings for special interest groups of the membership. Committee meetings are held on a regular basis, or on call. Frequency of meetings varies tremendously with the activity. some groups meet monthly, others might meet weekly during special program periods. There is an effort to maintain a regular schedule of these groups.
RELATION TO OTHER GROUPS
The Sparks Chamber is affiliated with these major organizations to provide service of a specialized nature to the members: Chamber of Commerce of the United States, Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN), the City of Sparks, Truckee Meadows Tomorrow, and Western Industrial Nevada (WIN)
